Decisions and Ethics in the Age of Algorithms

  1. Keep humans in the loop – ensure human involvement in decisions that directly affect people (e.g., hiring, promotions, loans, evaluations).
  2. Analyze intentions and impacts – don’t just ask “does it work?” but “who benefits?”, “who is excluded?”, “does this support our organization’s values?”
  3. Create space for dialogue on dilemmas – ethics begins with conversation. Host regular team sessions to reflect on AI-supported decisions.
  4. Treat AI as a partner, not an oracle – instead of surrendering, learn to collaborate. Define clear rules for when the system supports a decision, and when humans must have the final say.
